| Wireless Payments |
Recently, the introduction of Chip & PIN has allowed merchants across a broad range of sectors to protect themselves from the fraudulent use of stolen or counterfeited cards. However, the specific requirements of sectors where mobility is a pressing concern have largely delayed the move to Chip & PIN. To address this, The Logic Group have extended the capabilities of Smart-Switch to add support for wireless terminals, specifically to address the needs of such sectors as the hospitality industry or other areas where mobility is important. These include outdoor markets, sports stadia, outdoor entertainments and home deliveries.
With wireless terminals merchants can offer customers the convenience of making payments away from a till location, for example, paying at their table in a restaurant, club or bar. The customer never loses sight of their card, removing opportunities for the card to be skimmed and giving customers a greater sense of security. Merchants are able to enjoy both the benefits of mobile terminals and a solution that is integrated into point-of-sale systems. This approach avoids dual entry of transaction amounts, eliminates the need for dedicated dial up telephone lines at each till and offers consolidated reconciliation of transactions. Transaction timings will be faster and annual communication costs will be reduced.
Smart-Switch, The Logic Group's market leading product for robust and flexible software integration at the Point of Sale, is at the heart of the solution. It has been designed to help retailers add support for both new applications and cards whilst minimising disruption to legacy systems. Smart-Switch integrates and connects via standard interfaces to all elements of the EPOS, in this case providing a generic interface for wireless terminals. The initial model supported by Smart-Switch is the Ingenico 7780 Bluetooth wireless terminal. An API has been published allowing other wireless terminal manufacturers to develop interfaces between Smart-Switch and their terminals. At least one other major manufacturer is currently developing such an interface.
