Retail IT skills shortages a thing of the past
Flexible staffing the way forward

Fleet, Hampshire, October 4th, 2005: The Logic Group has launched Managed Professional Services - a new flexible resourcing service aimed at removing the headaches normally associated with the use of temporary staff. Often, retailers simply do not have enough internal IT resources to respond to business requirements, or available internal resources are unsuitable because of under or over qualification. An added benefit is that staff can be sourced far faster than using a conventional recruitment agency.

Staff can be provided to assist with operational projects together with project and programme managers who work alongside or integrate with existing teams. The Logic Group has carried out assignments for many of the top 100 FTSE companies, and by choosing Managed Professional Services, our clients have benefited from the existing management processes and procedures of an established services company.

"Today’s businesses are under constant pressure to deliver more for less," says Ed Dennehy, Logic Group Vice President Consulting and Professional Services. "Flexibility and fast response times are needed to ensure businesses stay ahead of the pack by delivering services on-time and on-budget."

Managed Professional Services staff are backed by the Consultancy Practice within The Logic Group, and they can call upon this resource to supplement their skills. Logic Group consultants have specialist skills which those from larger generalist consultancies lack. A team or individual approach can be taken, depending on the customer's requirement.

Team approach - when engaging a team, The Logic Group selects resources accurately to match a customer's needs. As the project evolves, the skill mix can be altered to reflect the changing needs. The team operates to industry best practice, ensuring consistent quality of work. Teams are managed by a Logic Group manager, who will provide feedback on the teams’ activities, deliverables and highlight any concerns.

Individual approach – if resource needs are limited, we can supply individual staff to fulfil a specific task. Again, the Logic Group can manage this person, and you will receive the same level of feedback as if you had engaged a team. All individuals have been screened by our own internal consultants prior to engagement. Additionally, sourcing staff through The Logic Group minimises costs related to tax legislation, particularly IR35.

"We recently helped a top supermarket chain to perform a major network upgrade, moving to a managed IP environment," adds Dennehy. "This meant that many of their key staff were needed to ensure the project was successfully delivered within very aggressive timescales. Managed and Professional Services supplied not only a network helpdesk analyst and an interim technical project manager, but also a network trouble-shooter, who visited stores around the country to provide network checks. As the project progressed; they were given higher levels of responsibility, allowing the client’s staff to focus on the management of the new upgrade."
